Toronto Affordability (torontoaffordability.com) is an independent, informational website. This page explains, in plain language, what information is and isn't collected when you use the site, and how third-party advertising works.
The short version
- The calculators run entirely in your browser. Any income, home price, or down-payment figure you type is never transmitted to or stored on our server.
- We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not collect names, email addresses, or payment information through the site.
- We use Google AdSense to display ads. Google and its partners may use cookies to show ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- Your only stored preference is a light/dark theme setting, kept locally on your own device.
Information we collect directly
Almost none. Toronto Affordability is a static website with no login, no contact form database, and no server-side processing of the values you enter into the tools. When you adjust a slider, switch an age cohort, or run the mortgage stress test, all of the arithmetic happens locally in your web browser using JavaScript. Those inputs are not logged, saved, or sent anywhere.
The single piece of information the site stores is your display preference. When you click the "Dark mode" / "Light mode" button, we save a small value (named ta-theme) in your browser's localStorage so the site remembers your choice on your next visit. This value lives only on your device, contains no personal information, and can be cleared at any time through your browser settings.
Cookies and advertising
This site is supported by advertising served through Google AdSense. To deliver and measure those ads, Google and its advertising partners may place and read cookies or similar identifiers in your browser. Specifically:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.

Analytics
This site does not run a separate third-party analytics suite (such as Google Analytics) at this time. Standard, non-identifying request logs may be generated by the hosting provider (for example, GitHub Pages) as part of normal web-server operation; these are controlled by the host, not by us.
Children's privacy
This site is intended for a general adult audience interested in housing and personal finance. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Your choices
Because we don't collect personal data, there is nothing to request, correct, or delete on our side. You remain fully in control of advertising cookies and your theme preference through your browser settings and the opt-out links above. Blocking cookies will not break the calculators, since they don't rely on cookies to function.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site evolves or as advertising and legal requirements change. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
